Nissan Pathfinder Class Action Settlement

,

R. Scott King, BSME ::::

Nissan North America and attorneys representing a nationwide class of certain Nissan Pathfinder and similar SUV owners have reached a settlement agreement that will extend the original factory warranty to help cover the cost of damage resulting from allegedly defective radiators.

Specifically, this settlement pertains to current and former owners and lessees of 2005 through 2010 Nissan Pathfinder, Xterra, and Frontier vehicles who have experienced, or will experience, internal transmission damage resulting from engine coolant contamination.

This condition occurs when small cracks in the transmission oil cooler, a normally sealed unit located within the engine radiator, allow engine coolant mixture to migrate into the transmission cooler, and mixing with the transmission fluid.  In large quantities, this mixture can cause serious internal damage to the many transmission and torque converter clutch disks and bands that control gear shifting.  This damage can be so severe that it often warrants complete transmission replacement.  Of course to completely remedy the condition, the engine radiator must also be replaced, as well as a thorough flushing of all transmission cooler lines.

This settlement provides complete coverage or reimbursement for up to 8 years/80,000 miles, and a tiered structure up to 10 years/100,000 miles.
