Motorcycle Fast Facts: Front Brake Stopping Power

You may have heard a rule of thumb such as “the front brake of a motorcycle provides 70% of the stopping power.”  It would be inaccurate to make such a blanketed statement about motorcycles since the “stopping power” of the front and rear brakes are dependent on the type of motorcycle and the type or condition of the road surface.  For additional information on Motorcycle Safety and Accident Reconstruction, please contact Curt M. Motorcycle Fast Facts: Side Stands

Side stands support the motorcycle when it is parked.  If a motorcycle operator were to ride away without retracting the side stand, it could contact the ground, upset the motorcycle, and possibly result in a crash.  For this reason, many modern motorcycles come equipped with an ignition cut-out that prevents the motorcycle from being ridden while the side stand is down.  For additional fast facts, contact Curt M. DJS Associates to Digitally Preserve Historic Synagogue with HDS Laser Scanning Technology

Professional services to be donated through strategic partnership with CyArk

ABINGTON, Pa. – DJS Associates, Inc., a full-service forensic consulting, technology and animations firm, announced today that it will be performing high-definition survey (HDS) laser scanning to digitally preserve the historic Frank Lloyd Wright designed Beth Sholom Congregation in Elkins Park, Pa. The scanning will take place from November 12-14, 2012 as part of a strategic partnership with CyArk, a non-profit organization based in Oakland, California dedicated to digitally preserving cultural heritage sites throughout the world. Beth Sholom is one of a select number of projects that DJS Associates will assist CyArk with in the northeast region of the United States.

During the three-day scan, DJS Associates will collect as-built data which will then be used to create a three dimensional animation model of the building to scale. Should the synagogue gradually deteriorate overtime or be damaged by a man-made and/or natural disaster, the digital model will enable the historical landmark to be restored to its original state.

Curtis M. Beloy, PE Discusses Proper Operation & Handling of Motorcycles

Curt’s Corner: Did you know…

Motorcycles traditionally come equipped with independent front and rear brakes.  The front brake is capable of generating more “stopping power” compared to the rear brake.  The reason for this is that the weight of the motorcycle and rider shifts forward as they decelerate and the additional weight on the front tire allows for increased traction with the roadway.  Some motorcyclist can apply the front brake to the extent where the front tire carries the entire weight of the motorcycle and operator while braking.
